Two Health Benefits of Scuba Diving

Scuba diving can be a fun and exciting sport. But did you realize that while you are exploring the alien world under the sea you are also getting fit? Just by performing two basic scuba diving functions together you are improving your health. They are swimming and breath control.

Swimming is a great workout. Greater muscle engagement is required to propel yourself through the water as water is more dense than air. And because you have additional weight from all of your equipment there is more of you to move through the water. This requires strength, particularly of the quads, hamstrings, glutes and core.

In order to dive successfully you will need to master breath control to conserve oxygen. You must learn to take long, slow inhales and exhales to accomplish this. This type of breathing exercise helps reduce stress and also improves the efficiency of the lungs and oxygen exchange.

Now, go out there and get healthy!
