Where Do You Rinse Your Equipment?

Scuba Diving Equipment

Typically, after a great dive all you want to do is sit back, relax, and have a cool refreshing beverage. However, the task of rinsing off your equipment often gets in the way. So, where do you rinse your equipment?

If you’ve got your own equipment you want to make sure you care for it properly – you’ve got a significant investment. Particularly after a salt water dive you want to make sure that there are not any salt crystals remaining on your gear. But even if you’re diving in fresh water chances are there are remnants of whatever muck or murk you encountered.

When you are on holiday, generally scuba diving centers will have a place to rinse your equipment but when you are diving at home you will need to address how you can properly take care of your gear. Your first thought might be to fill up the tub and let your gear soak there or hang it in the shower. But this can be cumbersome and, depending on the size of your bathroom, time consuming.

I recently read a blog about a guy who took his equipment to a car wash to rinse it and got a clean car at the same time. This seems a bit extreme but probably solves the problem. If you’ve got a dive shop in your neighborhood they may have a rinsing station that you can use.

However, the best course of action, if you can manage it, is to set aside some space at your home that provides fresh water for rinsing and a place to hang your equipment to dry. Just remember to bring it back in when it’s done drying.

I hope this has given you some ideas on how to solve the problem of where to rinse your equipment. Good diving!
