Can This Whale Be Saved?

On Valentine’s Day, 2011 Michael Fishbach of The Great Whale Conservatory was in the Sea of Cortez with family and friends on a small boat observing the whale population. They came across a humpback whale that they took for dead as there were no signs of life. Then it let out a forceful exhale!

Michael entered the water to assess the situation. He found that the whale was entangled in a fisherman’s gill net. Its pectoral fins were pinned to it sides and its tale had been pulled down about 15 feet by the weight of the net. They only had one small knife and not much time.

Watch Valentina’s  beautiful story.
