Australian Surfer Fights Off Shark

Shark Loses Battle

Australian three-time surfing champion Mick Fanning was able to avoid being bitten by a shark during a surfing championship held in South Africa over the weekend.

As he was waiting to ride his first wave he saw the fin of the shark and was able to punch the shark to buy himself some time. As quickly as possible the rescue crew arrived and pulled him from the water unharmed.

The remainder of the competition was cancelled and the prize money split between the two finalists.
