Top 5 Places to Learn to Scuba Dive
Don’t Learn to Dive in Dreary, Cold Water…
Often people learn to scuba dive near where they live. And it often ends up being in cold, rough water. If you’re going to take the plunge, why not do it in a beautiful location with exciting views during your lessons. I actually went to Hawaii to take my lessons rather than go the coast of Northern California where the water can be cold and choppy. I highly recommend the warmer climes.
Consider the following locations.
1. The Gili Islands, Indonesia
The warm, clear waters around the Gili Islands are home to more than 3500 marine species – making the area a scuba diving paradise.
2. Byron Bay, NSW, Australia
Julian Rocks, just 2.5kms offshore from Byron Bay, is arguably the best dive site in Australia. The mixing of tropical currents and cooler waters around this volcanic bluff combine everything that’s good about the Great Barrier Reef with the same marine environment as the Galapagos Islands.
3. Maui, Hawaii
Monk seals, mantas and turtles are famous Hawaiian underwater residents and the occasional humpback and whale shark might come calling too. If you get distracted easily Maui may not be the best place to learn, as these usually rare animals are so abundant.
4. British Virgin Islands
If exploring and treasure hunting is what you had in mind then a specialty wreck diving course in the British Virgin Islands is probably more for you.
5. Koh Tao, Thailand
Unlike neighboring party Island Koh Phangan, Koh Tao is all about the diving. This relaxed little hub has over 50 scuba-diving course operators as shallow dive sites like the Japanese Gardens are perfect for beginners.
Wherever you go enjoy yourself!
