How to Replace and Clear Your Mask Underwater

Do you know what to do if your mask comes off or fills with water? This is a basic scuba diving skill that all divers need to know.  Make sure that you practice this skill in a safe environment – don’t wait until you are on a dive and need it.

There are two steps to accomplish this.

1. Replace your mask and make sure you have a good fit.
2. Clear the water from your mask by exhaling through your nose and allowing the water to escape from the top of your mask.
