Scientists Have Created Crystals That Make Breathing Underwater a Reality

Have you ever wished that you could have the super power of being able to breathe underwater, without tanks, like mermaids and Aquaman? Well, this may soon be more of a reality than fiction. Scientists have already created the vehicle that will allow this.

Can you imagine heading off to go on a dive but not bringing any scuba tanks with you? That’s crazy! But may soon be in your future.

The news: Aquaman. The Little Mermaid. Spongebob Squarepants. These are just some of our most recognizable heroes who can breathe underwater. And though it seems like the stuff of fiction, breathing underwater may soon be very much a reality.

A group of scientists at the University of Southern Denmark have developed what they’re calling a “crystalline materials that can bind and store oxygen in high concentrations.” ……

“A few grains contain enough oxygen for one breath, and as the material can absorb oxygen from the water around the diver and supply the diver with it, the diver will not need to bring more than these few grains,” professor Christine McKenzie said in a release. …….
